According to Greek mythology, Acalle was the daughter of King Minoas and princess Pasiphae of Crete. The legend says that her beauty was unique, as a result of which two gods fell in love with her; Hermes, with whom she had a son, Kydon, and Apollon, to whom she gave birth to their son Naxos.
According to the epic poet Homer, Aerope, which literally means "air-shaped", was a granddaughter of King of Crete Minoas, she married the king of Mycenae, Atreus and had two sons Agamemnon and Menelaus who starred in the Trojan War.
